Workshops for parents and caregivers of children with additional needs
Our workshops combine the power of EMDR therapy with TRE® (Tension & Trauma Release Exercises) to help you build resilience, promote wellbeing, and manage stress.

Designed specifically for those supporting children with additional needs, this event offers a supportive environment where you can develop emotional self care tools. Join us for a day of healing, connection, and renewal as you nurture yourself.

Upcoming Workshops

  • What does the day involve?
We will begin the day with a range of self-soothing exercises to set a calm foundation. Together, we’ll work through challenging parenting experiences using EMDR in a private and supportive setting. After a break for lunch, we’ll engage in a restorative TRE® session, followed by a space for discussion and reflection to close the day.
  • What is EMDR and GTEP?
At ROAR, we offer specialised therapies. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), is an evidence-based approach designed to resolve past difficult moments and events. Our workshops feature the Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (GTEP), the group model of EMDR. With GTEP, participants work quietly and independently, without the need to share or talk through their particular challenges. This method allows individuals to process traumas and difficulties in a supportive group setting while maintaining their privacy. Our workshops are tailored to help people build resilience in a confidential and effective manner.
  • What is TRE® and why is it beneficial?
TRE®, or Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises, is a series of innovative exercises designed to help individuals release deep muscular patterns of stress, tension, and trauma. At ROAR we work with the amazing Jo Selwood to incorporate TRE® in achieving profound physical and emotional healing. TRE® works by activating a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. By alleviating physical stress and emotional trauma, TRE® can enhance your overall well-being, improve relaxation, and support a healthier, more resilient mental state.
  • Where are the workshops held?
ROAR workshops take place at Dragon Fly Studios in Sydenham, offering a holistic setting for the entire day. Participants enjoy a nourishing vegan lunch prepared by Leo, ensuring both mind and body are well cared for.
  • What are the timings of the day?
Workshops aim to start at 9:15 and finish by 2:45.
  • Is lunch provided?
A delicious, healthy vegan lunch is provided by Leo cafe nurturing both body and mind.
  • What do I need to bring for the TRE® session?
The yoga studio provides mats, bolsters, and blankets, but you’re welcome to bring your own.
  • What do I wear?
Choose something comfortable that allows you to move freely.
